Typelabs

Typelabs is an ongoing series of typographic experiments and explorations with creative coding. Like a scientist in a laboratory I observe and document what happens when type gets exposed to code.

Typography is a beautiful visual system — a condensed set of symbolic shapes representing sounds, words, thoughts and ideas. It was shaped over time by different cultural contexts and its visual appearance is constantly evolving and adapting.

Code offers the unique ability of creating your own tools. I often view the coding environment as a laboratory. In this environment type gets exposed to code in a series of exploratory experiments where I do all sorts of mean things to letters: manipulate, stretch, deform, deconstruct, attach to my body, reshape, reflect, draw, pixelate them and so on

Each experiment gets documented and reviewed. The ones I like go through an evolutionary process with slight adaptations to every new generation and eventually lead to completely new iterations and unexpected outcomes.
